Artistic Director

Jess Kapuscinski-Evans is a theatre maker, sings with “crip folk” trio the Bearbrass Asylum Orchestra, and is Artistic Director of The Waiting Room Arts Company. The company commissions disability-led artistic projects in a range of disciplines. The Waiting Room Arts Company has produced a successful multidisciplinary and hybrid work called ‘Spaced’ tackling themes of the intersections between people with physical and psychosocial disability, for Fuse Festival 2021. Jess won a Green Room Award for best performer in Contemporary and Experimental Performance. Her play with The Waiting Room Arts Company ‘Murder, She Dictated’ received support from Creative Victoria and The City of Darebin. She was a writer and performer for productions ‘Three’s a Crowd’ (Melbourne Fringe Festival) ‘A Normal Child’ (the National Play Festival in Sydney, the Darebin Speakeasy Program), and ‘Enunciations’ at Footscray Community Arts Centre. She has also had work performed at The Emerging Writers’ Festival. Jess is also involved in the Disability Resource Centre as a member of the Committee of Management and assists with their campaign for accessible public transport. Jess also works  part time as a research assistant at the University of Melbourne analysing musical instruments designed for people with disabilities and wors with disabled students as they complete studies in a range of music courses.
